New Topographics

2018

22”x28”

This series is my own take on New Topographics-inspired landscapes. The New Topographics exhibition from 1975 challenged the standard of photographic beauty and reinvented landscape photography. This exhibition was made up of work that showed unromanticized industrial and everyday environments instead of the scenic, picturesque work that had been characteristic of landscape photography in the past. To further emulate the New Topographics style, I shot using a large format film camera with black and white film while searching out locations that are not typically photographed for their beauty.
